Betsson AB Secures its Swedish iGaming License
Betsson AB is a renowned casino operator that recently announced Swedish players will soon have legal access to a range of its domains including Betsson.com, SverigeAutomaten.com, and NordicBet.com. This development means that Betsson AB is one of the first operators to receive an iGaming license in Sweden.
A Significant Milestone
A press release published by European Gaming Media and Events states that the license will come into effect on the first day of 2019 and last for five full years. The Swedish operator now has twelve iGaming licenses with approvals in other jurisdictions such as Malta, Denmark, and the United Kingdom.
Among the First
Alongside its other domains, Betsson also operators a range of others including OranjeCasino.com, Betsafe.com, and Casino.dk. The iGaming license was dispensed by the Swedish Gambling Authority and the operator will have to pay an 18% gross gaming revenue tax each year to maintain it. LeoVegas AB is another prominent operator to receive the Swedish iGaming license following the deregulation of the Swedish iGaming market in June.
Success the Second Time Round
This wasn’t the first time that the operator applied for a Swedish iGaming license. Betsson AB filed an application back in 2006 but was unsuccessful. Remarking on the success that came this time Pontus Lindwall, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, said that the deal means his firm can operate local advertising and sponsorship deals while widening the scope for a larger Swedish workforce.
In a statement LIndwall said:
“It is good that Sweden has opened up the gaming market to free competition in a controlled environment. We look forward to operating in our Swedish home market as a recognized operator on equal terms.”
