Big Milestone and Spring for PokerStars
PokerStars has been the internet’s main poker hub for many years now. It has more players and more games than any other site and as a result it also deals more hands every single day. How many hands you ask? Well, in the 6 years between June 2013 and now, PokerStars has dealt over 100 billion hands, making a total of over 200 billion!
That’s a staggering number of poker hands and one that no other network has come close to, so it’s no wonder that PokerStars are celebrating this huge milestone.
Not only does it cement the idea that PokerStars is the biggest and most popular poker network, but it is also proof of its rapid growth. PokerStars was founded in 2001, which means that it took nearly 12 years to deal its first 100 billion hands, and half that to deal the next 100 billion. At this rate, they could hit 300 billion by 2022!
PokerStars had been waiting for this big milestone and preparing bonuses for the players lucky enough to be a part of it. When it finally came on May 4th, the 200 billionth hand was dealt to 6 players competing in a 8c/16c cash game. In such a game players typically buy-in for between $5 and $20 and during a really good session a good player may walk away with a profit of $50. But there was a much bigger prize in store for these 6 players as they were each given a whopping $10,000 for being a part of PokerStars history.
In addition to this generous payout, PokerStars also ran a number of promotions leading up to the event, with around $2 million added to the pot by way of guaranteed tournaments, prizes, promotions, bonuses and free-rolls. They even gave away some free PS-branded merchandise from their store!
All in all, it was a huge occasion that PokerStars celebrated with a generous spirit, ensuring every single player in their expansive community was behind them every step of the way,
One of the biggest promotions added to the site was something known as the 200 Billion Hands Celebration Wheel. This was a prize wheel that every single player could have a spin of. To qualify, you just needed to have played a real money hand of poker since the site was established back in 2001, and doing so meant you were in with a chance of winning up to $2,000 every day.
6 million spins were awarded in total, giving you an idea of just how huge the PokerStars network is. It’s not just the size that counts either. Poker networks and gambling sites in general are notorious for having a lot of inactive players, and while PokerStars no doubt have their fair share of these, they also have an active player base in the millions.
A Stellar Figure
A spokesperson for The Stars Group, PokerStars’ parent company, commented on the occasion, saying that “200 billion is a truly stellar figure” before adding that they had been looking forward to this milestone for a long time and were more than happy to make a big song and dance out of it.
They added that they really wanted to give something back to all of the players that had made this site so special, and they saw this milestone as the perfect opportunity.
In amongst all the celebrations PokerStars also had the Spring Championship of Online Poker to think about. Not only is this the biggest online poker event in the spring, but it’s one of the biggest all year long—few events can compete with the SCOOP in sheer scale.
The 2019 SCOOP was scheduled to run from May 12 to May 27, putting the cherry on the cake for PokerStars in the first half of 2019.
