WinStar World Casino becomes official Casino for Dallas Cowboys
NFL team the Dallas Cowboys, who compete in the NFC East, has just announced that they are partnering with TwinStar World Casino and Resort, making them the first of 32 NFL teams to have an official link with a casino.
The link between the casino, which is owned by the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, which operates the casino and resort in Thackerville Oklahoma, was announced by Jack Parkinson, general manager at WinStar World Casino and Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, five-time winners of the Super Bowl.
Cowboys owner Jones said of the new partnership, “The Dallas Cowboys take great pride in aligning themselves with the best brands in the world. It is a privilege to stand shoulder to shoulder as partners with such a prominent entertainment brand like WinStar World Casino.”
Sports betting is still illegal in Oklahoma, but in the NFL off-season, the owners` committee gave their approval for a relaxation of the rules as far as promotion of gambling facilities goes. Teams can now enter into partnerships with casinos, and gaming companies could even pay to have the naming rights to stadiums. However, it is still not permitted for teams to have direct links with sportsbooks.
“We are excited about the future of gaming as it relates to the NFL,” Jones added.
On May 14, 2018, the US Supreme Court voted 6-3 that the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), which banned states from allowing sports betting through their own legislation, was in violation of constitutional principles. Now that the federal ban on gambling outwith Nevada has been lifted, many states have moved quickly to introduce legislation and regulation. At present, sports betting is permitted in eight states, these being New Jersey, New York (pending), Nevada, Mississippi, West Virginia, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Kentucky and Ohio have bills tabled for scrutiny in 2019, and many other states have been looking at passing new laws this year.
It has long been recognized by the NFL that they could gain many extra billions of dollars if legal and regulated sports betting was made available to a wide public, and an American Gaming Association-commissioned Nielsen Sports study has confirmed this, predicting that the NFL could enjoy an extra $2.3 billion every year through gambling-related sponsorship, advertising, and data provision.
