Targets are more than Met by GamCare and YGAM in the First Year

    Published Published 04/02-2021

Even with the current pandemic dominating the thought process of people around the world, GamCare and YGAM managed to beat its target for its latest joint venture. The Young People’s Gambling Harm Prevention Programme has had a very successful first year.

Targets for the First Year Smashed by YGAM and GamCare

The two charities decided to work together in order to provide a wide-reaching programme to help young people. The programme is based in the whole of the UK and is dedicated to helping young people avoid harm from gambling. With Covid-19 ensuring that people have to remain indoors it provided some unique challenges for the two charities, but despite this the targets have been smashed.

The duo started the 4-year national programme and joint the initiative with the support of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC).

The programme was started in 2020 and is set to be run until 2024. It has help from the BGC and is expected to try to help as many young people as possible during this time period.

YGAM has released its figures for the entirety of 2020. It beat its target for training staff by almost 400 people after training almost 3,000 people in total. It also managed to help almost 200,000 young people with its resources and materials. Those are excellent sets of numbers that are well above what the charity expected for the first year.

GamCare has also trained an additional 4,200 people to help young people with gambling issues. With the programme not even 12 months old it shows that both charities are taking it seriously and have managed to beat their targets even with 8 weeks of the first year left.

Coronavirus Caused Both Charities to Embrace Online Learning

The CEO of YGAM commented that he was delighted with how the programme had worked out. Because the global pandemic had such a big impact on the UK it meant that they were unable to reach people in person. As such it meant that online resources had to be developed at a fast rate. YGAM managed to achieve this and it contributed to the success of the programme.

GamCare also had a similar comment. The charity said that it was very proud with how the programme worked over the course of 2020. The pandemic made it difficult to carry out the original plans so improvisation had to take over. The charity managed to provide a high-quality service without any significant delays.
