History
NetEnt was founded in 1996 in Stockholm by Pontus Lindwall. Pontus Lindwall is the son of Bill Lindwall, who was very active in the traditional Swedish casino industry as a partner in “AB Resturant Rouletter”, which later established a partnership with “AB Roulette Konsult & Spelautomer”, and in 1972 the 2 companies merged into the newfound company Cherry. NetEnt was founded when the internet started to take off in the 1990s, and where the online gambling industry slowly began to offer games online.
At the beginning NetEnt only had 3 employees serving only 1 customer. Later on, rumours appeared that Pontus had actually tried to give away the company for free, due to a very difficult start in the business. After 6-7 hard years NetEnt CasinoTM was launched and they started to make a profit in 2003. The following years became very event full, with new international clients integrating the NetEnt casino games. In 2005 NetEnt required a license from the Malta Gaming Authority. In 2007 NetEnt was listed on NGM Equity and in 2009 they moved to the main list on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
